Importantly though, information is differently accessible on different devices, for people whose first language is not the same as yours and for people with different abilities and disabilities. BC campus has a webinar series on inclusive design which helps provide more information on this issue. Click on the link below to learn more about inclusive design and how you can achieve it.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"JchQLql5oH\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/bccampus.ca\/2019\/03\/12\/inclusive-design-webinar-series\/\">Inclusive Design Webinar Series<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;Inclusive Design Webinar Series&#8221; &#8212; BCcampus\" src=\"https:\/\/bccampus.ca\/2019\/03\/12\/inclusive-design-webinar-series\/embed\/#?secret=fSxHQyZvwd#?secret=JchQLql5oH\" data-secret=\"JchQLql5oH\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Think of the following examples:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Long stretches of unbroken text look different on mobile devices and may be overwhelming or difficult to read.<\/li>\n<li>Videos with loud audio in the background may be distracting or unintelligible for people with hearing difficulties<\/li>\n<li>Some colours are difficult to see for people with colour blindness<\/li>\n<li>Speaking too fast may make you difficult to understand on video or audio<\/li>\n<li>Someone from a different cultural background may not have the same reference points as you<\/li>\n<li>In Canada, or depending on the community you are interested in reaching, you may want to make your science available to people who speak languages other than English<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can make your science communication accessible to more people by making it available in a wider variety of formats. So think about the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>If you are writing, can you include images or videos to help make your communication more clear?<\/li>\n<li>If you are recording the video or audio podcast, can you provide a transcript? Can you provide transcripts in languages other than English?<\/li>\n<li>If you are creating online content, follow the W3C best practices for online accessibility, found here <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/WAI\/standards-guidelines\/wcag\/\">[link to W3C accessibility guidelines]<\/a><\/li>\n<li>When feasible, use multiple formats in presenting your information, as suggested by the University of Minnesota on their accessibility webpage <a href=\"https:\/\/accessibility.umn.edu\/universal-design\/presenting-topics-multiple-formats\">[link to Presenting Topics in Multiple Formats]<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Now that you&#8217;ve thought about tailoring an accessible message to your audience, you may also be interested in experimenting with new or innovative ways to present your science.
