Ryerson Professor, <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"http:\/\/rsj.journalism.ryerson.ca\/team\/joyce-smith\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joyce Smith<\/a>, has published a paper in <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"http:\/\/futureoflocalnews.org\/portfolio-item\/giving-begins-at-the-homepage-local-news-and-charities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">The Future of Local News: Research and Reflections<\/em><\/a> that shows how embedded local news outlets have traditionally been in the practice of charitable giving in their communities.
