Getting Started

Welcome to WebSpace at Royal Roads University! WebSpace is based on WordPress and here we offer a series of tutorials covering everything you need to know to get started using your WebSpace. We’ll cover basic WordPress functionality for new users to get you creating content in your personalized WebSpace in no time.

What is WebSpace?

WebSpace is based on WordPress, an open source content management system. WordPress powers nearly 25% of the websites currently on the web, so it is quite likely you’ve visited many websites hosted on WordPress in the past. Not only is WordPress the most popular content management system today, it is also probably the easiest to use. As the WordPress framework is so adaptable it can be used to run blogs, websites, eportfolios or reflective spaces depending on how you set it up.

WebSpace is your personal website that you can build and store your work, reflections and accomplishments through out your Royal Roads journey. You can also easily take your website with you when you graduate and, due to the popularity of the WordPress platform, host it on one of many free or paid hosting environments.

Using WebSpace

Users of Royal Roads University (RRU) WebSpace must be aware of, and abide by, the WebSpace Terms of Use and RRU IT Services Acceptable Use Policy.

It is also important for you to think about copyright, digital footprint, Open Educational Resources (OER), and e-portfolios. For more information on these, we suggest you refer the Online Services section of The LaunchPad Orientation to RRU Moodle course.

All users are encouraged to review the Terms of Use, Usage Policy and Online Services section to ensure that the materials they post are compliant.
